PicasaWeb Uploader

Overview

PicasaUploader is a very simple tool to help you upload your photos and videos to Google PicasaWeb in three easy steps. It provides the following functionality:

  • Browse and select an album or create a new one
  • Browse and select/remove photos and videos to upload
  • Automatically resize/scale the photos prior to upload – just select the size you want form the drop down.
  • Right click and “Send To” integration on Windows
  • Duplicate photos handling – Skip/Replace/Upload
  • Error handling – if something goes wrong during the upload you will be asked if you want to retry.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the App. I just tested creating an album on my machine and it works fine. I googled around and this error might indicate that either you are using a proxy which is having an issue or there is a problem with your ISP <-> google data services. Maybe it's just temporarily.

  • tunaaja

Thanks for answer. I dont know. Error appears instantly when i push ok button at the create new album window. As if it doesnt try to communicate with picasa at this point.

  • Kyle S.

Thanks a lot! I was looking for something like this and it's perfect.

    Hi Ivan,
the PicasaWeb Uploader is really a useful tool. Thank you very much. Could you add http(s)-proxy support to it?

  • http://ivanzlatev.com Ivan Zlatev

Glad it is useful to you. I have made the latest version use your system's proxy settings. See if that works for you – http://cloud.github.com/downloads/ivanz/PicasaU

  • ABC

Ivan, works perfectly and it's exactly what the doctor ordered!

Please put a Paypal donate button somewhere on your site, I've spent the last hour installing / uninstalling Picasa only because I wanted this simple functionality and they don't have it without an intrusive first scan of the user computer for all the photos..

    Thanks Again!

  • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

Hey, I am very happy to hear that my tool was useful to you! As per your request I have just added a PayPal donate button under the download link.

hi, great tool!!! But could you add an upload option for shared albums?? Thanks

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

Hi, thanks. Unfortunately working with shared albums is not currently supported by Google as far as I can tell.

  • Stephan

hey, thank’s for writing the tool. I’m just uploading a bunch of images and it seems to work perfect. google picasa is just too bloated and your little tool does hell of a job :)

the video upload doesn’t work very well. I tried to upload 28MB avi file with PicasaUploader and it failed. than I tried with Picasa 3 and succeed.

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

I have just released a new version, which should fix issues to do with large video files. You can give it a try.

  • Jeremy

Try as I might, video uploading to my Picasa account fails every time with the error panel that gives you several reasons why (none of which apply). I’m using mp4 format, 16MB Video files, tried them individually and multiple. It is not possible to upload videos via the web uploader, and as I don’t have (or want) Picasa itself I have no other way of doing it. Is this something you can have a look at?

This is the latest Win installer downloaded today from github. Win 7 Ultimate 32 Bit.

    Thanks, Jeremy

      • Jeremy

Still fails I’m afraid. I downloaded your latest version from github.

34MB MPG video, so well within Picasa guidelines.

        • Jeremy

UPDATE: I had the wrong version. This now works – thanks Ivan!

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

      • migawka

I suppose he means a synchronization feature with a folder on local disk

Thx for this great tool. Please add a new scaling size 2048x… As you might know pictures up to that size aren’t counted in for the picasa space while using g+.

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

I will add it in the next release, thanks.

  • Niranjan1990 S

hi..first of all I want to thank you for such a wonderful tool, I am trying to work on your code for uploading to a remote  server…I was trying to build the project but i get this error – “Error    1    The type or namespace name ‘Tasks’ does not exist in the namespace ‘System.Threading’ (are you missing an assembly reference?) ”

can you please help me out..

    Thank you

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

Sounds like you might be compiling against .NET 3.5 instead of .NET 4.0 . I am pretty sure that the picasauploader project is set to .NET 4.0.

Also refactoring AlbumInfo and PicasaUploader is the last piece I have left to do so that the code is in a nice condition. Currently it won’t be very easy to plug in a different service to upload to, because of the tight coupling between those classes.

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

I have pushed the refactoring I was talking about in my previous comment to Git. All you will need to do in order to replace Picasa with another service is to implement IMediaUploadService and IAlbumInfo

  • Mgtowne

I have .Net framework 4, but it says I don’t when i try to install…

Thanks very much. I wanted to ask, is it possible to integrate imageshack into picasa uploader?

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

Hey, doesn’t ImageShack already offer a batch uploader -
http://imageshack.us/content.php?page=uploader ? (I haven’t tried it) Or you have something else in mind?

      • Vlada T

Hi Ivan, maybe I didn’t wrote exactly what I meant. Sorry. I’ve meant on transloading images and videos from picasaweb album directly to imageshack would be awesome feature. Something like this:

        http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=picasa  or
http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=transloader ( transloader is working now, but only with the photos from any site )

Because or imageshack or picasa changed their codes definitely lately, imageshack button in picasa desktop uploader don’t work anymore. This button actually allowed, while it was ok, user to post picasa photos from his computer to imageshack directly, but I’ve meant about the feature which would allow our already uploaded photos and specially videos from picasaweb album, to be transfered to imageshack account.

Is that possible, please? I think that this feature do not offer anyone on the net still.

        Thanks in advance, Vlada

      • Vlada T

Now I’ve noticed that, for example, .wmv formats are not allowed to upload using PicasaUploader, no matter Picasa originally allow this formats using the browser uploading. Is it possible to fix it, please?

        • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

Hey, what do you mean with “not allowed” It will let you add a .wmv to an album. Do you see an error?

          • Vlada T

Yes, not supported format for adding in picasa using picasa uploader. That’s the error.

          • Vlada T

            Here is the screenshot:

            http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/804/errorcu.jpg

            Some possible causes:

            1. I’ve uploaded many many formats, and also .wmv using browser uploading, so it’s not the cause.
            2.Internet connection works fine. :D
3.Just now, uploading through the browser is working fine, so it’s not the problem with picasaweb albums.
4.I am uploading only the videos which are 15 minutes or less, just not to exceed the picasaweb quota. And have nearly 20 GB of videos, and now my quota is just 312 MB. Also I have payed 20 GB google storage. So, I have enough space in both cases.
            5. The file is perfectly ok, and any video player can play it on my computer.

The conclusion is that maybe PicasaWeb Uploader do not recognise this quota. What do you think Mr. Ivan ?

            Thanks in advance, Vlada

Hi, I cannot add photo to album. Button for “add photos” is just missing on window “select your photo”. It seems like a bug in latest version. I’ll try to download some older version and we’ll see

    • http://ivanz.com/ Ivan Zlatev

That’s odd. The button shows up fine here and I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t.
